No one took the mayor of Leigh's claim that he was going to erect a statue of himself in the town centre seriously until the stone structure appeared one day out of the blue. The likeness was remarkable but the man himself had abruptly gone missing. Nigel at the pub suggested it was no coincidence a Medusa exhibition had taken place that week, but no one listened to that old alcoholic. Still, the mayor was never seen again.
